To promote products, there is such a tool as media kit (or press kit). It is a set of documents, images, and/or media content containing information about a product or organization, or person. This data can be used by the press and during PR events.

For my websites, I usually create media kits. It is really helpful in promotion and helps to get more information about the project to the interested parties. But besides websites, I also occasionally develop open-source projects. And I periodically add media kits to projects. This can be a folder in a repository or hiding resources in a project.

In the media kit of open-source projects, I usually add information about myself, the history of the project, screenshots, various banners, project name spellings, and descriptions. But I was confused by what I call this media kit. Of course, all materials about the project are to some extent marketing and are intended to promote it.

But promotion is still not the main goal. A set of additional data about the project can be presented simply as one of the elements of the development of the project. Not for the press, not for marketers, not for potential investors. This information may be useful to ordinary people and programmers who have shown interest in the project. As an element of training, and/or motivation. In addition to the code change history.

Then it dawned on me that it should be called project kit!

So what is project kit?

Any information about the project that may be useful and interesting!

  • Correct spelling and pronunciation of the project name.
  • Project description.
  • Project logos of different sizes and in different formats (.png, .jpg, .svg, etc).
  • Project graphic banners (for example, for publishing an application in the Google Play store and similar ones).
  • Screenshots if the project has a UI.
  • History of creation and development of the project.
  • Links to videos related to the project.
